Australia Etiquette

Business

Business dress should be conservative. Men should wear dark suits; women should refrain from wearing red.

The customary greeting is a firm handshake. Business cards are usually exchanged.

Business meetings are expected to be brief and to-the-point.

Maintain eye contact during conversation with others.

Being on time is critical.

Do not hype yourself or your company. Present the facts and let them make their own opinion.

Gift Giving

When visiting someone’s house, chocolate, a bottle of wine, or flowers are acceptable gifts.

Generous gifts may not be accepted.

Gift giving is not a common practice in business.

If someone buys a round of drinks, it is expected that each person will return the favor.
